                                                                Our Home Garden-2                                                                                LIBIN

I received lot of positive response and good feedbacks on the blog “  OUR HOME GARDEN-1” . Here is the Part two of our Home Garden. First blog consist of plants which are at their saplings level and little harvested part., I am not going to write much in this blog, i am posting lot of pictures, that will tell you the things rather than the write ups.  In the last blog i gave a hint that we tried to commercialize our greens, Yes we did it.  First time we planted a red Spinach and harvest of those plants were good , we take some of the greens for cooking and we gave rest of the greens to our friends and families. Red spinach is widely used for cooking in our place and people look green spinach as foreign thing to our people. With this challenge ,we marketed our greens ., we sold our spinach directly to the peoples , totally there are twenty sets of spinach and in one set consist of 4 Spinaches., We fixed a rate of Rs.15 for one set and we received a overwhelming response among the people .

Next harvesting is Radish, we grown radish through grow bag in our terrace garden we bought seeds from JAI ORGANICS..  When you are at initial phase of gardening , start your gardening with radish because it gives you a good yield and pests  attack are very low comparatively to other plants , it boost your  confidence to do well in gardening. This season we harvested around 1Kg of radish in one grow bag.

Long beans is a creeper type plants which needs external support to grow effectively. We planted around 10 long beans plants , all these plants are growing well and it starts giving  the yield. Usually we see green long beans in our areas , but this is red type long beans which is rich in Nutrient values.

Cabbage is the next plant which we are growing in our garden and cabbage is usually grown in hilly areas & which needs humid type of climate . With little hesitation we started cabbage, because we are not sure how it grows &Was it adapt to our climate etc . But it does well in our garden , there are are around 16 plants in our garden and there is pest attack in these plants and that is inevitable . For controlling pests in cabbage we sprayed NEEM solution to the plants , after doing this there is  considerable improvements in the plant. Cabbage needs to grows in partial sunlight  , if it is fully exposed to the sunlight , size of the cabbage gets smaller. cabbage requires regular watering. Best time to grow cabbage is the mid of November. We not harvested cabbage, once harvesting is done ,i will update.

Next plant is Cluster beans , we planted total of 19 plants but only 2 plants survived and it is giving good yield. Usually cluster beans grow in all types of climates and soil condition. No need of special maintenance is needed for growing cluster beans , regular watering and proper sunlight is needed for good growing of this plant. Main feebleness of this plant is when yield is higher plant gets inclined so it needed proper external support.

Bitter gourd is a vining plant that grows like cucumber, snake gourd etc. Bitter gourd needs vertical support to spread it vines easily. Like all creeper plants , this plant is also easily prone to attracting the pests. White flies are the major threat to bitter gourd, controlling of pests at early stage gives us good yield. Spray Neem solution regularly to control the pests.

Manures and Fertilizers:

We are using  cow dung and burned leaf ash as fertilizers , our vegetables are 100% organic. We are using dried leaves for mulching, it keeps the plants moisture always.

These all are the recent developments and updates in our home garden, we are planning  to improve the numbers of plants in our garden. Count of plants gets decreasing as it gets matured and stopping it’s yield and overhauling is needed for our garden. I am getting more involved in gardening and need to learn more about growing plants and Gardening.
